DES MOINES, IA
The Iowa Department on Aging awarded Vaxi Taxi with ADRC/NWD COVID Vaccine Access Supplemental Funding as part of their ongoing mission to support accessible, integrated services to older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers to assist them in maintaining their independence, dignity, autonomy, health, safety, and economic well-being.
Vaxi Taxi is a pharmacist-driven, mobile vaccine service founded in Ankeny by Iowa native, Dr. Casey Villhauer, PharmD, BCGP. The company utilizes a network of highly-trained pharmacists to answer vaccine related questions and provide in-home vaccinations. Vaxi Taxi found success keeping busy families on top of their routine immunizations from the comfort of their own homes prior to the development and release of a COVID-19 vaccine. The Agency on Aging funding will allow Vaxi Taxi to focus on providing COVID-19 vaccine counseling and home delivery to individuals >60 years of age, age 18-59 with a disability, and caregivers for both. Vaxi Taxi pharmacists are also available to deliver at-home COVID-19 tests with guided instruction and information on the results.
“Vaxi Taxi is a fantastic solution for Iowa’s seniors that struggle to find a vaccine, schedule an appointment, and coordinate transportation. It’s easy to see how the process can be overwhelming, and it’s heartbreaking to know that without our service the vaccine would be inaccessible to many. For this reason, Vaxi Taxi is proud to partner with the Agency on Aging to provide in-home COVID-19 vaccinations and at-home testing to our most vulnerable populations,” stated Villhauer, Vaxi Taxi CEO.
