DES MOINES, IA
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services awarded Vaxi Taxi with funding as part of a grant series dedicated to addressing COVID-19 health disparities and advancing health equity. As part of the project, Vaxi Taxi will expand local capacities and services to prevent and control COVID-19 infections in underserved targeted populations; including racial and ethnic minority groups and populations in rural communities.
Vaxi Taxi is a pharmacist-driven, mobile vaccine service founded in Ankeny by Iowa native, Dr. Casey Villhauer, PharmD. The company utilizes a network of pharmacists to answer vaccine related questions and provide in-home vaccinations. Vaxi Taxi found success keeping busy families on top of their routine immunizations in their homes prior to the development and release of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The funding award will allow Vaxi Taxi to focus on providing COVID-19 vaccine education, further strengthen public health collaborations, and seek new community partnerships. The project will be ongoing through 2024.
